چکیده

Conclusions LNMAC histopathology reveals a necrotic core (amorphous eosinophilic material) and surrounding inflammatory rim (macrophage and lymphocytic infiltration) with zonal calcification. By MRI this zone of cellular inflammation and edema manifests as the zone of peripheral hyperenhancement on the PSIR, HASTE, and IR TURBOFLASH sequences. Most benign or malignant cardiac tumors show high T2 weighted imaging intensity, and are myocardial isointense on T1 weighted imaging before contrast administration. In contrast, the hypointense central zone of liquefactive necrosis seen on T1 and T2 weighted sequences,

Reduced size of liquefaction necrosis of mitral annular calcification in chronic renal failure by using low calcium concentration hemodialysis.

A report is presented of a liquefaction necrosis of mitral annular calcification in a patient with chronic renal failure and secondary hyperparathyroidism who had been managed by hemodialysis for 11 years. The mass was echogenic with an echo-lucent area inside, high density on computed tomography and low intensity on magnetic resonance imaging. The uptake of gallium-67 (67Ga)-citrate and the bo...

Mitral annulus caseous calcification mimicking cardiac mass in asymptomatic patient – multimodality imaging approach to incidental echocardiographic finding

BACKGROUND Caseous calcification of mitral annulus is rather rare echocardiographic finding with prevalence of 0.6% in pts. with proven mitral annular calcification and 0.06% to 0.07% in large series of subjects in all ages. Echocardiographic images of caseous calcification are often heterogenous due to calcium and lipid deposits, and the masses show hyperechogenic and hypoechogenic areas. Howe...

Caseous calcification of the mitral annulus: a multi-modality imaging perspective.

Mitral annulus calcification is a common echocardiographic finding, particularly in the elderly and in end-stage renal disease patients under chronic dialysis. Caseous calcification or liquefaction necrosis of mitral annulus calcification is a rare evolution of mitral annular calcification. Early recognition of this entity avoids an invasive diagnostic approach, since it is benign and, unlike i...

From Mitral Annular Calcification to Calcified Amorphous Tumor

Calcified amorphous tumor (CAT) is characterized as a non-neoplastic calcified, cardiac mass. A CAT is sometimes detected adjacent to a mitral annular calcification (MAC), suggesting its association with MAC. A 75-year-old woman with known history of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was admitted to our hospital because of dyspnea. Echocardiography showed MAC, left atrial enlargement and left ventric...

Calcified amorphous tumor of the heart with mitral annular calcification: a case report

BACKGROUND Calcified amorphous tumor of the heart is a rare, non-neoplastic cardiac mass characterized by nodular calcium in the background of amorphous degenerating fibrinous material. Clinical diagnosis of calcified amorphous tumor can be difficult, and current single imaging techniques do not specifically differentiate calcified amorphous tumor from other cardiac tumors such as calcified atr...
